A dental extraction is particularly beneficial to patients with teeth that can no longer be saved with restorative materials and need to be removed. When we perform this procedure, we always numb the area first with a local anesthetic and then loosen the tooth with a dental instrument called an elevator. Once the tooth has been sufficiently loosened from its socket, we use forceps to gently remove it. In some cases, stitches may be needed post-removal, but generally, the procedure is over before you know it, with minimal post-op side effects.

By removing the tooth in question, the healing process can begin, and oral health can be restored in a matter of two to three weeks. If your jaw is too small or you have crowding teeth, we may need to extract one or multiple to begin orthodontic work. Wisdom teeth especially need to be extracted if they are impacted, so they don’t cause additional issues with your teeth and gums. This can affect your chewing and speaking abilities as well as your overall health.
Severe infections can decay your teeth and gums, making it difficult to repair the area. If the decay has affected your roots and is too serious for antibiotics, we may recommend pulling it. We will always put your health first.
